[X4U] Save dialog slowdowns in Tiger?

Running 10.4 and 10.4.1, I've noticed that I get a lot more slow  
responses to Save... dialogs.  I get the "spinning beachball" effect   
fairly frequently when I save a file.  I do have several external FW  
drives mounted, and I know that that can sometimes slow access with  
file saves, but I never noticed this problem before Tiger.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this problem?
