Last December, I bought a Magellan RoadMate 700 portable GPS device. It's amazing technology and ensures that I will never get lost -- the driver inputs a destination, the Roadmate calculates a route, and if the driver varies from that route, the device recalculates a new route. The road database is built into the device and can be updated, and that's why I'm writing this note. Updating is accomplished over the Internet using a browser and the included USB cable. Simple enough, except that updating requires Windows. When I inquired about using my Mac to update, I was essentially told to drop dead -- the Mac user base is too small. So I had to borrow a friend's Gateway, turning what should have been a simple process into an hour long pain. This was a friend, by the way, that I've been encouraging to switch to a Mac. The GPS is an expensive piece of technology, so Mac users should know about this little problem before investing. Art Amolsch G4 Quicksilver 867. 1.25GV SDRAM Tiger .1
