I have a close friend who works for a high-tech company in Germany. He 
came
to visit me for a week last summer. Once a day he needed to contact his
company and he needed to use data that was resident on his own laptop.
According to your rubric, I could have told him he was rude and refused 
him
entry to my home, but then I would have missed the remainder of my visit
with him.
