[X4U] Screen dimming on iMac G5

Hi all,

A colleague asked me to post this question to the list. He has a 17 
inch, 1.8 GHz  iMac G5 with 1 GB of RAM running OS 10.4.1. He's having 
a problem with his screen dimming. It started a couple of weeks ago 
when it was just OS 10.4. When he'd put the computer to sleep he would 
see the screen dim before shutting off. Then when he woke it, the 
screen would remain dim. He was able to get the screen back to normal 
by checking on the "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display 
before display sleep", option (which was off), then turning it off 
again. Now after the 10.4.1 update the screen remains dim all the time. 
He says that when he starts up the computer  he gets a bright grey 
screen with the apple logo, then it goes to blue, but then it dims 
before the desktop appears and it remains that way. Anyone have any 
suggestions?
