I just need to interrupt and apologize for my erroneous post yesterday in which I thought I had a Brother HL-1440.  Actually I have a Brother HL-1650.  As far as I know the 1440 does not have built-in duplexing.  I have not used the 1440, so my comments only apply to the 1650, which incidentally I still highly recommend as an excellent inexpensive home office laser printer.
