[X4U] Spotlight on a pen drive?

Won't the pen-drive need to be HFS formatted to be Spotlight-indexed?

I usually format external drives FAT32 - it has some annoying 
shortcomings, but I usually need external drives to be accessible from 
Windows & Linux boxen.
