I don't believe there would be any issue with you editing the files right 
off the PC formatted disk.

Give it a go.... format the drive as MS-DOS then drop a DV file on it and 
try to work with it in your favourite movie editing app. If it opens and 
saves without issue then you're good to go.

Yes, but I would be running the External HD with the digitalized 
Super 8 film on my 17" ALPB to edit and clean-up before I burn the 
final DVD.
