Yes, you're probably right. However, one of the reasons Mac users give for the superiority of the platform (and the higher prices of the machines) is the long life of the machine. If the latest version of the operating system (Tiger) is supported for use on a machine that is 4-5 years old (clamshell iBooks, slot-loading G3 iMacs, G3 PowerBooks), why won't Apple make it available for that machine? Come January 2006 that's the situation. Are we only supposed to keep Macs for 3 years now? As recently as October 2003, Apple was still selling Macs with CD-only drives. Eddie Hargreaves
