Although LaCie is an excellent choice usually, stay away from the "lightscribe" capable drive. My experience with the dual-layer drive was a very bad one, and I ended up having to return 2 firewire versions of them because of instability. [You don't want to know how many expensive dual layer coasters they made -- on 2 different G5's.] Toast 7 has the ability to compress long movies or files into 4.7 gigs. I have not really noticed an appreciable difference between a compressed DVD and a full-length 8.x gb DVD. There was an initial severe incompatibility with Toast 7 and the dual layer firewire. It may have been worked out, but you should question LaCie specifically if you decide to go with the dual layer. My $.02.
