I don't think you want to start up in your account either. You want  
to keep the kids at bay. You can however, set up your machine so that  
it starts up to the login screen and from there you can log into any  
account you want.

System Preferences/Accounts/Login Options (you may have to click on  
the lock to unlock that function). In the Login Options pane deselect  
"Automatically log in as:"
