It only allows you to choose a startup disk if you have more than one disk/partition with startup folders present. If you have, say, OS 9 and OS X on the same partition, you won't have a choice. If you *do* have two startup disks or two startup partitions present, and cannot get the choice at startup, it means that one of the partitions/disks is not seen as a valid startup volume. If one of the disks is external, make sure your cables are not loose! If all of the disks/volumes are internal, it might be time to break out disk troubleshooting software. -Linda
