No. I was about to buy a powered USB-hub just for charging the iPod Shuffle
and then who knows when the hub comes in handy.

Just double-checking: Was that with the hub unconnected to the Mac? Because
that's the key point, that I just want to plug the iPod in and leave it
alone and not have a computer running all the time just for charging the
chewing gum player.
