[X4U] iTunes volume adjustment

I'm running 10.3.9 and iTunes 6.0.5 and have run into a very annoying 
problem.  One of the things I've really liked about iTunes is that it 
can automatically adjust the playback volume.  For some reason my 
system seems to have stopped doing this.  Not sure when this happened 
as I've not been using iTunes much (I normally listen to LP's).
