[X4U] Mail Import Question

I'm hoping one of you out there has done this and can tell me what  
I'm doing wrong.

I'm trying to convert mail from Outlook Express (WIN 98) to Mail.app.  
(10.4.4)

I know that Mail.app will import mail in the .mbox format, so on the  
PC I installed Thunderbird and imported the mail to Thunderbird.

Then I copied the converted mail file over a network to the iMac G5.

Ran Mail.app, import but the Thunderbird file is "greyed out", and  
Mail.app won't let me import it.

Any ideas?
