[X4U] Pioneer DVR-110DBK

I bought an external NEC DVD DL writer one and a half year ago.  It's  
broken now and I need to replace it.  Unfortunately I can't open the  
external case without damage so I might replace the internal CD  
writer of my G5/2.5.
Do I need to patch the system for this Pioneer writer with  
PatchBurn?  Any point I should take special care while dismantling  
the G5?
