[X4U] Mail.app and IMAP IDLE?

Mail.app's IMAP implementation seems... erm... quirky. Since the IMAP  
"standard" is so loose & open to interpretation I won't say that it's  
"buggy" but there have been a number of posts to the users' mailing  
list of the Dovecot IMAP server in the last 2 weeks or so that  
indicate that Mail.app doesn't play well at all.

I find it slightly difficult to believe that Thunderbird &al play  
nice with Dovecot just because their developers have tested  
thoroughly with this server, but easy to believe that Apple test  
thoroughly with the Courier IMAP mail server, with which Mail.app  
works great.
