[X4U] Mail spell checking

Is it me or has spell checking gotten less useful in Apple Mail?  
Unrecognized words are underlined in red. I ctrl-click on the word to  
get a suggestion and it seems to me that Mail is less likely to offer  
suggestions than in the past. It used to be that almost every  
misspelled word could be fixed using suggestions provided. Now much  
more often Mail offers no suggestion and I have to edit the word by  
hand. Has anyone else experienced this?
