[X4U] Sound Glitches

I¹ve got an iMac G5 1.8 and the sound works for QT files and the when I
check in the sound prefs but Flash files, Real Player and anything else the
sound doesn¹t work. What would cause this? Is there something ³under the
hood² that could be done. Would the sound card be bad?
