I'd try MPEG Streamclip (may need Apple plugin for mpeg2)

Or ffmpegX, which takes a little work to install (need to install  
extra components, but it walks you through the process.

IIRC MPEGStreamclip is freeware, ffmpegX is shareware (you can try it  
for free).
