It works fine for me. I bought the unit before I got the G5 and I have never had trouble with it. I have had to replace the battery, cost about $24. I get about 5-10 minutes run time on battery, and either the OS or the PowerChute will shut down the computer for me. I too, bought it for the stable power, as I live in an old house in an old neighborhood where the power will drop for a second or less. The big thing, since you said your power is not so great, is to be sure you get Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) this conditions the power supplied to your components.
