I'm using it on fake wood grain which is supposed to be bad. My other mouse is not on fake wood grain but it is on a light coloured surface. Same problem. But I hate mouse pads so I'm not going to use one. I might try one just to satisfy myself that it's not the mouse that is bad. After that I'll just put up with crappy tracking. I know Macally mouses aren't the best but I like the scroll wheel as it's clicks and doesn't free wheel. Logitech and especially the Mighty mouse wheel move too quickly and are too sensitive and make me over scroll.
