They've more in common with the Pentium-M than with the Pentium D's. The Pentium D cpus are two Pentium 4 'Prescott' cores on one chip. These have long pipelines, run hot etc and are only effective at very high clock speeds really. Core 2 is the future direction, Pentium 4 is likely to be ditched quietly I suspect, as the Core range of cpus just run rings around it.
