The advantage is that you install a fresh, clean System folder that is free
of cruft but keep your Applications, User accounts, documents, settings,
etc. Your previous System folder is named as such and is kept around in case
you need to move things over like contextual menu items or preference panes.

Because Archive & Install does not carry over third-party items from your
pre-exising System, some work would be required to root around your old
System and put them in your new System.

The method that requires the least amount of initial time spent is Upgrade.
