Word 6.0 for Mac was a low point, that's for sure. 5.1 was great by
comparison and many Word users stuck with that version rather than v6.
Fortunately (for MS Office users anyway), MS and Apple shook hands
when Jobs returned and Office 98 was released in March 1998. The $150M
MS committed didn't hurt. ;-)

BTW, Apple stock was in the 20-30 range back in those days. My how
times have changed.
