I have a HP 4550 and it has worked flawlessly with my OS 10 installations for years. It also works fine with my wife's iMac when it runs Classic. Therefore his frustrations probably stem from some simple step he has not taken in configuring OS 10 printers. Or a bad cable. There is nothing for Apple or HP to feel bad about. There is nothing in "apple- ness" or "Hp-ness" that is the problem.
