Tryout Arcana Research's: StartupSound pref pane, found at the usual places; Versiontracker or Macupdate, works fine in OSX here, but for OS9 and below she'll need to turn it down before she shutsdown. Also, if'n she's running pre-Tiger she'll want to run OSX's daily, weekly and monthly maintenance routines manually with the likes of: MacJanitor found at either of the above places, you might wanna advise her.
