The only way I've found that works all the time is to make a special playlist that has the podcasts you want to listen to. Likely as not a Smart paylist will work, but I'm sure it works with the "hard-coded" playlists. The "Podcast" playlist doesn't seem to act 100% as a user made play will. I don't know why, but this work around works and isn't too tedious.
