The "archive and install" option means that you do NOT have to reinstall apps and re-enter serial numbers -- all of your information is archived and available to the OS afterward. This is different from a "fresh install", which does wipe your entire drive, requiring you to reinstall apps and serial numbers, etc. Hope this helps in the future. Glad it was just the printer.
