Have you thought of "Senuti" as a method of moving the contents of  
your iPod to your Mac hard drive? I have used it to copy my play list  
to a second Mac but not to copy any other type of file, so I can't  
positively recommend it for that purpose. It might or might not work,  
but it's worth a try if you have no other backup file.
