David; I've got a slightly older model of the same drive [possible the same one, it's at home and I'm at work]; in an even older G4 [G4 400] that works just fine; I'd check jumper setting, [should be master], ribbon & power connections; if it still isn't seen [under 10.4.0 or later] I'd return it as defective.
