Dear list, my thanks to Eugene <list-themacintoshguy at fsck.net> who gave some great suggestions. But in the end, I need to kick myself hard in the butt for failing to follow my routine. I could not get the problem to recreate itself when running the PB off of 10.4.9 on an external drive. So, was going to start in as Eugene suggested when I noticed that my folder where I store apple updates has only combos in it, and the one I used to go to 10.4.10 was not. So, downloaded combo and applied it. (I always use the combo... except this time....) Now, everything works. Have NO clue what happened and why, but am now 100%. Thanks to all. I get a gray'd out Quicktime symbol with a question mark in the center. I thought this was a Safri 3.0 problem but I get the same problem using Safari 2.0.4 I am running a 17' G4 PB, system 10.4.10, all other software up to date. Reloaded Quicktime 7.1.6 and re-installed with its security update. Also reloaded Flip4Mac. Problem continues. Any suggestions very much appreciated.. Lee
