[X4U] MacBook + USB Drive + XP

Has anyone out there gotten their Macbook to boot XP from an external  
USB drive?

I've been banging my head against a wall for about a week.
I've read hundreds (if not, thousands) of articles about "how to do  
it", but haven't gotten any correspondence from someone who has  
actually accomplished this feat.

I have the latest Macbook with the latest firmware. It's almost as if  
the firmware is preventing this type of hardware arrangement.
(I know that M$ tries to prevent this for XP)


I've tried Boot Camp and rEFIt with numerous hard drives and methods.

I've gotten the farthest with Boot Camp and an external drive that I  
installed XP on by swapping it out with the internal drive.

I have some more pointed questions for someone who might have gotten  
it to work already...
