Yes. Power users might be happier if they got a Blackberry. More power to them. The iPhone isn't designed to be the ultimate hacker's device: it's a consumer product that brings more powerful features to a broad consumer market. The vast majority of cell phone users don't care about screwing with the innards of their phones: they just want an appliance that works and doesn't require a PhD in computer science (or equivalent work experience). If you want to hack your iPhone, go for it -- but don't expect any more sympathy or support from Apple than you'd get from Sony when you have trouble with your "modified" DVD player!
