I advise trying both a different SD card & a different card reader. I have found Macs fussy about both. You don't say whether it works if you copy the photos onto the card using a PC. This may be worth a try, even if you have to visit a friend's house (you can burn the images to CD & take it 'round there). My instinct says the resource forks or the DS files aren't the problem.
