The built-in microphone might work.  I've used the built-in  
microphone in my Powerbook to record depositions.

You might want to check out this free software:

You can use the Griffin iMic to attach any microphone you like:
http://is.gd/1oWt

The standard digital mic jack in your Macbook Pro is problematic to use.
