The other 200GB is for video storage and editing. So, no external HD. > Is it possible to realign the partitions and increase the space in the > first partition from 20 to 40 without losing data? No. Best solution IMO is to get another 200+ bare HD, one of these externalcases <http://www.pcmicrostore.com/PartDetail.aspx?q=p:10500933> and <http://www.amazon.com/Macally-Firewire-Storage-Enclosure-PHR-250CC/dp/B0000B3ALD>, pop the bare HD into it, partitioning the new external to better suit your needs, putting a bootable backup/clone, using Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper!, Disk Utility, etc., onto it, ensuring that it can boot the machine, swap the HDs, and subsequently erase and partition the oldHD residing in the new case. Just my 2¢.
