[X4U] Ethernet Integrity Test?

What is a good way to test the integrity of an ethernet interface on 
a Mac?  The onboard port on my Rev.0 G5 2x2 just died. :^(  I'm back 
up and running with an Intel PCI Gigabit adapter I had laying around, 
but would like to do some tests to see how well it is functioning.
