I'm not sure what a "box guitar" is, as opposed to an acoustic or electric six-string, but assuming it has a regular tuning then IMO a computer program is overkill. The "how to play guitar" market-place is not exactly un-exploited, and there are zillions of books out there that you'll be able to pick up on Amazon, Freecycle, at your local library, yard sales and in second-hand stores. The chances are that half the music your son listens to on the radio can be played with 3 chords. A bit of Googling <http://www.google.com/ search?q=guitar+tab> will surely find the chords used by bands he listens to, and then all he needs to do is lock himself in his bedroom and practice, practice, practice. Here are some 3-chord songs that Dad'll recognise: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SlfhP4Uo2jg Stroller.
