[X4U] How much can it cost

On my Mac OS X (10.5) Install Disc 1 from the iMac I found "Apple  
Hardware Test Read Me".  When I double click it nothing happens.  It  
has the Preview icon on it with the words PDF under it.  When I drag  
it to Preview also nothing happens.  When I do a comm-I I see it's an  
app file, but it will not open or show any sign of activity.
On the 10.5 DVD is something similar.  Will not open either.
How can I check my hardware?
