And it's your contention that if a kid has a cell phone on them, 
that'll protect them from all the whack jobs out there?...and that if 
confronted with an emergency or some nut who catches them offguard, the 
kid will be able to call for help in time?

I don't believe in "better living through technology."  Actually, the 
evidence is there to demonstrate how "technology" actually causes more 
problems than it solves; some of THOSE problems being unsolvable.

Maybe a society gripped in fear and alienation has more urgent 
priorities than to equip its members with the latest shiny sparkly 
things?
