On the lower end: The Samsung SCX-4200 starts at $150, and I am quite  
happy with it. Especially for the price.

It prints well and has some neat copy functions like scale to fit,  
copy to poster (3x3 sheets), passport copy, ...

Scanner integrates well with OS X.
