You could be correct. I have also seen though an email with a large attachment that my mac translated to a pict file??? If I remember it was something like pict.dat? Cant remember exactly. Preview opened it partly. When i ran it through MacLink Plus it turns out it was an Excel spreadsheet-go figure- and it opened perfectly. I agree it seems like it might be something else but I would still try MacLink Plus because even if you drag and drop onto different apps like someone suggested it might partly open it but not completely. Of course, the person could always call the store and ask what kind of file it might be, if that is practical. It would be interesting to know exactly what it is, i am intrigued :) Terry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda" <XPressoBean at mac.com> To: "A place to discuss Mac OS X for the casual user." <x4u at listserver.themacintoshguy.com> Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2008 1:27 PM Subject: Re: [X4U] Dat file extension > On 3/13/08 12:56 PM, Terence Cozad wrote: > >> I frequently get these from people who save from Outlook >> for Windows. > > Certainly, the winmail.dat file is the most common .dat I've ever seen, > but > Lee said this one is a couple humdred megabytes and was sent to him *on > CD* > from a hardware store, so I assume it's not a winmail.dat file... > > > _______________________________________________ > X4U mailing list > X4U at listserver.themacintoshguy.com > http://listserver.themacintoshguy.com/mailman/listinfo/x4u > > Seven Cent Deals - Great legacy stuff Great Legacy Price > http://www.drbott.com/prod/db.lasso?cat=Seven+Cent+Deal > >
