What a friend of mine did (and I paid for it) was to buy 2 500MB HD
drives and then buy a Mercury ELITE controller (raid) and it let me
use it as a 1TB
drive OR a raid drive the controller cost about $100(US) and the two
500MB HD's cost about $90 each (US)
It works well.
