[X4U] Corrupted Word 2004 document

I keep a journal or diary in the form of a Word Document. It covers  
several years.  Today I tried to check a date in it from a couple of  
years back, and found parts of Diary.doc are corrupted.  Instead of  
Arial text, I get passages like this:

Is there any way I can restore corrupted passages like this so that I  
can read them?
