Users with legacy FireWire devices will probably consider it a must-
have in a new Macintosh.

However, if you don't have legacy FireWIre devices, its not hard to
do without FireWire.

EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES
You can attach external hard drives via USB 2.0, and soon via USB 3.0.

MIGRATION ASSISTANT
You can attach your old Mac to your new Mac and move all of your old
software over via the Migration Assistant using Ethernet or a
wireless network instead of FireWire.

FIREWIRE TARGET DISK MODE
Instead of FireWire Target Disk mode, this USB product provides a
similar means for transferring files at high speed from one computer
to another without having to do any configuration or install
additional software. It works both Mac to Mac, and PC to Mac!
