Do you by any chance have either the MacBook or the iPhone, or both set to 'Using DHCP with manual address' or 'Manually' in Network Preferences -> Advanced (button) -> TCP/IP (tab) (or however that is set on the iPhone) Sounds like they're trying to use the same IP address from your router.
