[X4U] Streaming Video

My wife has asked me to figure out a way to stream internet video to  
the HD TV . . . she's a fan of bike racing and is looking for a better  
way to watch the races than on the laptop.

I know next to nothing about how to do this . . .I took a quick look  
at the AppleTV and the Roku but neither of them appear to pull down  
random streaming video.

Any ideas what the best way might be to do this?
