[X4U] Missing track numbers in iTunes Library

it looks like it's because they are ogg files. When you Add them to the iTunes library, even if you have iTunes convert them to mp3, you no longer have the Id3 tags--though actually the important things do survive except for the track numbers. If I want to play these on my iPod, my only hope would be to find a program that converts to mp3 and retains the id3 tags, then perhaps they'd still be OK when added to the iTunes library. Yeah, I'm aware of the sound degradation but I've reconciled myself to that for iPod use. Anyway, other than finding a program to convert and keep the track info, I guess I'll just keep adding the track numbers in manually. Of course i'm not getting rid of my ogg files and i'd perhaps consider converting my iPod to rockbox except the latest generation classics aren't supported. Thanks to those who tried to help with this; guess it's back to putting in tracks which is tedious but really isn't so bad once you get in a rhythm.
