[X4U] New MacBook Pro

I have just ordered a new 15" MacBook Pro.

I am considering how to best transfer programs and data from my Intel iMac (17" 1.83GHz) to the new laptop.

My primary HD in the iMac is a 250 GB drive which is about half full.
The new MacBook has a 500GB internal drive.

I could just clone the iMac drive (SuperDuper or CCC) and copy it to the new MacBook.  OR, I could FireWire connect the two and transfer that way.

What is the *best* way to transfer a huge amount of stuff to the new machine?
