I tried it from an old Mac Mini I have running 10.5.8 and didn't get your error. I wonder if having both Java versions checked is causing the problem. Here are screen caps of the Java Preference settings from my Mac Mini: http://www.sofstats.com/al/ Try changing your's to match and see if that helps.
